Translations

The word “translation” also means the activity itself carried out by the translator, the translating process and the end result of such activity, the translated text per se. The translating process is the intellectual-creative activity that includes the following stages and elements in order to guarantee high results from the point of view of quality and efficiency, according to the purpose that user aims at

First of all a translator needs to make an initial analysis of the text by identifying possible ambiguity problems, linguistics problems, an analysis of abnormalities, of abbreviations and of any other aspects that require explanation. Then, the source text needs to be examined from the point of view of terminology and of the specialised field. A translation is carried out, the first version of the translation is corrected and then the linguistic review is performed (by a translator, different from the author of the translation concerned; the same aims at the full and correct rendering of the source language message, the grammatical correctness, the appropriate use of the specialised language and the conformity with the fulfilled purpose) along with the specialised proofreading of the translation. Then the final version is approved and drawn up. At the end the translation is subject to checking (one last check before delivering the translation).

Consecutive interpreting

In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter speaks after the speaker has finished speaking in the source language. The speech is divided into segments and the interpreter sits next to the speaker, listening and making notes while the speaker communicates the message. When the speaker pauses or finishes the interpreter translates into the target language part of the message or the complete message.

In short, consecutive interpreting is based on the memory of the interpreter, but also on the ability of the same to take notes.

This method is used more often than not in speeches, recorded statements, statements made by witnesses before the court, interviews for employment purposes, but usually it is best for the speaker to finish conveying the overall idea before performing the interpreting.

Simultaneous
interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting

Conference interpreters have acquired skills in interpreting “in the headphone” the message they listen, analyse and “translate” instantly into the target language, in perfect harmony with the original contents of the message conveyed by the speaker in the source language – from the point of view of the contents thereof. This type of specialisation requires perfect knowledge of the two working languages and specific skills in simultaneous interpreting.

FokusTrad is able to make available to you conference interpreters duly authorised by the Ministry of Justice and certified by the Directorate General for Interpretation and Conferences of the European Parliament in Brussels, who are highly competent, with experience in the field and who master the specific terminology and who succeed in creating the appropriate atmosphere for the favourable completion of your event. Interpreters shall be selected according to the field your project belongs to.

For simultaneous/consecutive interpreting services it is compulsory to have two interpreters for each pair of languages and to have a conference room fitted with the necessary equipment. In the case of interpreting services for which interpreters are required to travel, the traveling, accomodation and meals shall be provided by three-star – at least – hotels and restaurants and the related expenses shall be charged to the beneficiary.
